Sad news in the reality TV world, the big lovable guy on MTV's Catfish, Mike Fortunato, has died at the age of 26.

Fortunato starred on Catfish's 'Mike & Ashley' episode. Fans of the show loved big Mike and his sensitive, kind nature. Mike died in Hartford, CT on Saturday. An official cause of death has yet to be determined, but doctors believe Mike died from a pulmonary embolism caused by deep vein thrombosis.

MTV's Catfish released the following statement on their Facebook page:

Catfish fans, we have sad news. Michael "Mike" Fortunato from this season has passed away. See here for more: thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. Please share your condolences for his family and friends in the comments.

Fortunato and Ashley were still friends, and apparently he sent her a text message saying he needed to go to the hospital. However, he waited. Later that day he decided to drive himself there instead of calling 911. On his way to the hospital, Mike was involved in a car accident where he swerved and crashed into a fence. Paramedics arrived on the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital.

Mike Fortunato died that evening.

Catfish creator Nev Schulman remembered Mike on Twitter:

A terribly tragic end to a very kind man's life.
R.I.P. big guy.
